Exotic Hardwoods

Exotic Hardwood in Portsmouth, NH.

Exotic hardwood floors are rich in visuals and textures and create a unique and luxurious living environment. Known for being highly durable, many of exotic hardwoods rate highly on the Janka hardness scale. The Janka hardness scale is an industry standard that measures the force it takes to embed a steel ball into a given species of hardwood. The higher the score, the more resistant the wood is to dents and bumps. The richness of our exotic hardwood selections, at B & C Floor Store LLC, will let you escape to a lasting and exquisite place.

Acacia – The Acacia species has strikingly rich grains and knots throughout each plank of wood. Some say that these markings contribute to a home full of positive energy, optimistic attitude and jubilant flow. As one of the hardest exotic woods, Acacia’s magnetic look adds an elegant, exciting spirit to a home with long lasting durability.

Brazilian Cherry –  Exotic Brazilian Cherry also known as Jatoba is among the most popular imported species in homes today.  Its colors span a range of salmon pink to reddish brown with orange-yellow highlights and dark accent stripes. Over time, the highlights fade and the colors deepen and grow more uniform in rich shades of dark honeyed red, crimson and burgundy with charcoal striping. The intense coloring and depth of grain in aged exotic Brazilian Cherry hardwood flooring are the qualities that make it so desirable in home décor.

Kempas – Kempas originates from Indonesia and Malaysia and is becoming a trendy flooring option.  It is another example of a truly hard hardwood. Unlike the other dark brown exotics, Kempas is predominately earthy red with complementary tones of amber and pale yellow. Its grain is subtly spiraled making it appealing to a wide variety of tastes. Kempas is a nice alternative to Brazilian Cherry for those looking for that reddish-brown floor without the dramatic changes in color.

It is at home in a wide range of settings – from rustic to contemporary to exotic. But the beauty of this hardwood goes deeper than its distinctive surface. Mahogany has a remarkable ability to hold shape as humidity fluctuates, making it a great choice for damp, dry, or seasonal climates.
