Surprising Home Office Ideas

Surprising Home Office Ideas

We have some surprising home office ideas for you!  Working from home is ideal for baby boomers to millennials and is the most in-demand type of flexibility job seekers are interested in. And because of this they need new home offices! The styles range from traditional to transitional, with locations in the attic, the basement or even a closet. No matter what style of office you choose or where you place it, consider the floor as an integral part of your office design.

The office ideas below have hardwood, vinyl or laminate floors, the most ideal if you have a desk chair with casters on it. Tile carpet can be difficult in positioning your chair without getting stuck in the grout lines or stuck in the pile of the carpet (unless you have a special mat specifically made for these instances).

Here is an office that utilizes some space in the attic.  It is bright and cheery, well organized with ample space to move about even for a few people. Notice the hardwood floors, it provides a natural element and is easy to keep clean. The desk chair with casters is easy to maneuver from one end of the office to the other. This next office is located in the basement under the stairs, truly a smart way to utilize space and function.  They chose laminate floors which are great for the budget conscious. (Photo by: Leslie Goodwin Photography)

Don’t have alot of space? This office has been designed in a bedroom closet with vinyl floors where you can close the doors when office hours are over. (Office design by: Cathy Phillips & Co.)

We think any man would want this masculine in-house office to call their own. A great view out the window, ample lighting, a place to read the New York Times and plenty of seating for meetings. Notice how the hardwood floor grounds this space. (Office by: Kristi Spouse Interiors)

Here is a great in-house office idea for you ladies out there! It is warm, inviting, airy and bright with plenty of storage. The hardwood floors are covered by a large area rug (with no pile) adding a little movement to the calmness of this room. ( Office by: Jennifer Pacca Interiors)

New Style Trend Breaks Traditional Fashion Rules

Published by Tarkett Newsletter

With the return of the spring season comes the colorful rebirth of the landscape as well as new designer fashions for the Spring/Summer collections. It is invigorating to see all the spring color and dive into the detail of what is new and different and why. One of the things we have noticed over the past few years is the lack of rules when it comes to fashion. For example, fashionistas used to run to retail at the start of each new season to see what cut of denim was the “it” thing. Now, when you go to retail, they are all represented! From skinny, to flare and from low rise to high waist…anything goes! The new rule is…there are no rules!

There are so many similarities between fashion and home fashion, it should come as no surprise that this lack of rules also applies in the interiors segment. For home fashion, there seems to be almost a backlash against any design rules. This anything goes design aesthetic has become the next trend in interiors! This trend has been driven, in large part, by the economy. Home owners don’t have this “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality any longer. They are not creating polished interiors that are reserved only for entertaining guests. People are LIVING in their homes and surrounding themselves with interior décor elements that make them happy and reflect their own unique personality. These items could have been things that they brought back from their travels or family heirlooms that have been passed on to them. Creating a personal space is just that…personal.
Consumers are the curators of their own personal collections.  It doesn’t matter what their design aesthetic is, the days of trying to fit into one specific style category are OVER!

This idea of no rules was reinforced when talking to furniture manufacturers during our trip to High Point Furniture Market last year. They were keeping their style discussions amongst designers very broad, using terms like “casual” and “eclectic” to describe their new collections. They also had moved away from marketing full matching suites of furniture. The focus was on mix and match pieces that showcased flexibility such as small pieces that could work as a bedside table, an entry piece or end table. Multi-function was certainly the biggest driver because homeowners are buying furniture in single pieces. If they need a sofa, that is what they buy and they keep the other pieces with minimal wear in that room. Even in the design shows and magazines, we are seeing this more casual trend. Having furniture pieces that match exactly is seen as being boring and staged.

With all that being said, that brings us back to consumers going into flooring showrooms.  What is the one thing that everybody has an opinion about? Color! Let our iSelect system with six different color families help you come to a decision point faster!

Choose a palette.

With iSelect® you can find the floor that expresses your personality and style, while also living up to the wear and tear of everyday. iSelect also makes the shopping process easier. How? We’ve organized a selection of FiberFloor products into 6 easy-to-shop palettes, where each design complements the others within that palette.
