Red

Red

Welcome to our February Blog!  We have chosen the color red for this months blog in honor of  St. Valentine’s Day. When we think of the color red, we think: PASSION – Red roses, ENERGY – Red sky at night, POWERFUL –  Red stripes in our American Flag.

We also think the color red as warm, positive and energizing. Red excites the emotions and motivates us to take action. On that cue, we would like to present the color red added to different rooms by way of tile and carpet. You will notice in the photos below that red exudes a strong and powerful energy and gives a pop of vibrance much needed in a monocromatic setting.

Red tile

Above we have a white kitchen with an accent wall that is “Love at first sight”.  The glossy, glamorous sheen of red, orange and pink captures your attention. As you run your fingertips across the smooth pieces of 5×13 wall tile, you want to secretly whisper to this bold and seductive ceramic collection, “Where have you been all my life?” [The tile collection in this photo is called Sheen|

The tile above is intense and energetic like a romantic sunset on a clear summer night. It provides vibrant bursts of color converging to create a solar effect; this is the inspiration for this ceramic mosaic tile called Evoke. The red mixed with objects of marine colors (white and blue) provides a contemporary approach, allowing this striking glossy ceramic tile collection to pop and reach your heart.

This family room is sexy, warm and inviting. The architect/designer/homeowners choice of muted colors offers a relaxing atmosphere but by adding a rich red tile around the fireplace, it provides  pop of color to prevent the room from being too vanilla. Who wouldn’t want to share this room with a loved one, enjoying a glass of wine and listening to the piano by a warm fireplace?

Please consider us your home’s red carpet guide to floor and tile ideas, stock and installation. We always provide privileged treatment to all of our distinguished visitors and customers.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

2017 – Happy New Year!

2017 – Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!  As we look back at all the warm memories in 2016, we are feeling proud of our achievements and ready for another new year with new beginnings. WOW, 2017!  Another 365 days of all that is good… with family members, good friends and new acquaintances.  Happy New Year!

We are excited our monthly blogs this new year. Each year we try to bring you something different. In 2014-2015, we brought you our floor and tile installations highlighting different projects in towns and cities across New Hampshire and Maine. In 2016, we also brought you our floor and tile installations and provided some great ideas by various designers throughout the US.  We captured floor and tile ideas by room of:  kitchens, bathrooms, sunrooms and the like. In 2017, we will bring  you floor and tile installations based on color – we will highlight a different color for each monthly blog.

Our color for this month is white. When we think of January, we think of  white snow and January white sales.   Although white is not defined as a color in physics, it is considered a distinct color in visual art. The color meaning of white is purity, innocence or wholeness. In color psychology white is considered the color of new beginnings, wiping the slate clean, so to speak.  So for January 2017, we are highlighting rooms showcasing white tile!

Let’s take a look!

WHITE CERAMIC TILE

This lovely spa is adorned with a glossy white Lucente ceramic wall tile, 8″ x 24″. It also comes in a 4″ x 24″ bullnose,  8″ x 24″ wave pattern and a 2″ x 2″ Mosaic. This line offers a wide range of ceramic wall tile with coordinating porcelain floor tiles in a variety of colors.

WHITE PORCELAIN TILE

Below is a  porcelain tile series called Drift. It flows freely across the floor creating a comforting, almost lazy sense of contentment. Great for a beach house or an area that you want to create a space that is light and airy. The tiles come in 8″ x 45″ in a natural or polished finish.

WHITE PORCELAIN TILE – LARGE FORMAT

This porcelain large-format tile creates a restful backdrop for those seeking to balance modern, everyday living with a crisp, fresh look. Bold and beautiful as a world covered in a blanket of fresh snow; as a gentle reminder of peace and purity…this is the inspiration for Illume. The tile comes in 24″ x 24″ ‘Field Tile, 12″ x 24″ wall tile, 3×24 battiscopa, 2×2 Mosaic COLOR: Super White, Finish: Glossy

Illume Tile

White is the perfect color for any room that you want to create a sense of lightness, an ethereal feeling. You can change the style immediately with accent pieces and accent colors. Don’t be afraid to use the color white in your home.

We hope you enjoyed this month’s blog and again, we wish everyone a Happy New Year!

COLOR

COLOR

Have you ever taken a moment to observe the different colors Mother Nature offers us?

We live in a such a colorful world. Nature unfolds so many pigments depending on the different times of the year, the different times of the day and in different continents on earth. All the colors visible to us are infinately beautiful.

Let’s just take the color of the sky… it can go from gray (on an overcast day), to blue (on a clear sunny day) to orange or red at sunset. The leaves on deciduous trees range in colors of green in the spring and summer to yellows, oranges and reds in the fall. The color options are too numerous to mention, let alone color combinations but it all depends what is pleasing to your eye!

The same goes for colors of floors and tile. At B & C floor Store, we have many colors to offer you. We want to share with you some ideas of using color with hardwood, carpet and tile in any room of your home.

Your Carpet Installation Was Perfect. Now What? – Extending the life and quality of your carpeting

Your Carpet Installation Was Perfect. Now What? – Extending the life and quality of your carpeting

carpet-photo-01a You selected the carpet for your home, and it’s now been installed. You are excited about the end result, and now you want to maintain it. Just how do you go about extending the life of the carpet in your home and protecting your investment?

What are the four types of cleaning?

There are four different types of cleaning that the carpet requires. The most basic form of cleaning is vacuuming. The carpet has to be regularly vacuumed to remove the dirt regularly. In high traffic areas, the carpet may need to be vacuumed more often. If done regularly, up to 95 percent of the dirt could be removed from the carpets. Spot cleaning is performed when there is a spill. This could involve blotting a spot with a damp white towel. Spot cleaning should never include rubbing or scrubbing because this could cause the stain to settle further into the carpet. Interim cleaning is another form of cleaning. This form of cleaning targets soiling, and the equipment used is capable of targeting dirt buried deep into the carpet. Restorative cleaning is a deep cleaning treatment process that is performed by professional technicians as well. Households with pets, young children and members with allergies may need restorative cleaning more often than other households.

How to extend the life of the carpet in a home

There are several things that one can do to extend the life of the carpets in the home. How long the carpet lasts in a home depends on how often the flooring is cleaned. In following these tips, one can extend the life of the carpet.

Carpet Installation & Maintenace (Maintenance) Tips

Deep cleaning should be done periodically. Periodically deep cleaning should be done on a semi-annual schedule. Annually to semi-annually is the recommended cleaning schedule for most households.

Eliminate spots and spills immediately. The spots are removed immediately with a spot cleaning solution. These cleaning solutions are available at most grocery stores and are often quite effective in removing the initial stain.

Use carpet padding throughout house. Carpet padding in homes is used to absorb some of the impact created with regular traffic. The impact of daily traffic causes the fibers to become weaker, and padding addresses this by limiting the impact from walking and running.

Use matting near entries. Every area should have matting at every entry in the home. Giving people the opportunity to wipe their feet at each entry point offering access to carpeted areas limits the amount of dirt an area is exposed to over time.

Upgrade the vacuum in a home. A quality vacuum protects the piling in the carpet from wear and tear. More dirt can be removed on a much deeper level if the right vacuum is used. Generally speaking, the more expensive vacuuming systems are much better at targeting dirt well beneath the surface.

Establish no carpet zones. In preventing people from wearing carpet in a high traffic areas, oil, dirt and grime is less likely to make it to the carpet. The carpet is cleaner because it is exposed to dirt far less often.

A professionally installed carpet is the first line of defense in protecting the flooring. The real work comes with regular maintenance. Regular maintenance includes vacuuming, spot cleaning, restorative cleaning and interim cleaning. All forms of cleaning are necessary to keep the flooring looking its best for a longer period of time.

Removing Stains from Your Carpet

Removing Stains from Your Carpet

Shaw R2xDo you have carpet stains? Do you know how to treat them?

When treating a carpet stain there are several things to remember.   Spray lightly with the cleaner.  If you use too much cleaner it will soak into the pad and cause the stain to come back again and again.  If you happen to overspray, get your shop vac and suck up the extra fluid and begin again.   Spray the carpet with the stain remover and let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes.  Then blot do not scrub the stain using a white cotton towel as it is more absorbant. Scrubbing can cause the stain to set in.  Start from the outside of the stain and work your way to the middle to eliminate spreading the stain.    If needed repeat the process but just remember to spray lightly and blot instead of scrubbing.   Shaw Carpet has an excellent Spot Remover called R2X.  Our customers love it and keep coming back to buy more. My husband even uses it to remove stains from the upholstery in our cars.  Happy cleaning!

Shopping Tips

Before you shop for flooring we would like to offer some suggestions to ease your shopping experience.

Put together a bag or folder and include all or some of the following items:

• Swatches of fabric (or a pillow) from your sofa, curtains or bed linens

• A sample of your desired or existing paint color

• A sample of your kitchen counter top and/or cabinets

• Colors and/or flooring from an ajoining room

• Pictures of flooring that you’ve seen in a magazine, online or friends or family member’s home

• Room dimensions, including closets, hallways, and stairs (incude width and number of stairs) to assist us in providing you with an estimate for the flooring you are considering

Keep the entire bag or folder in your car for your spur of the moment shopping opportunity!

The more you bring, the easier it is for us to help you find the right product, style and color to match your decor.
